2027 Realignments Begin as Southern Ijaw Ward 9 Joins APC

Following the bold political footsteps of the amiable Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, politicians of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) extraction in Southern Ijaw Constituency 1 held a series of meetings and unanimously resolved to decamp from the party.

Demonstrating that resolve, members of the PDP in Southern Ijaw Constituency 1, Amassoma Ward 9, converged on the Ebenikiri Ama Town Hall on Sunday, where they officially decamped en masse to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the glory of God.

As expected, the decampees were warmly received by the APC family with fanfare. They were duly registered by the APC Ward Chairman and formally presented with the APC flag.

Speaking to newsmen on the mass defection of virtually all political actors in Ward 9 to the ruling APC, Comrade High Chief Abaye Ambaiowei said:

“Today, Ward 9 unanimously agreed that we’re joining His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri, in the APC family. This same development also occurred across Constituency 1 — Ward 5, Ward 6, Ward 10, and Ward 11 — where meetings were held simultaneously and members agreed to cross over to the APC.

“In Ward 9, the meeting was successful. Those of us who were in the PDP have decided to join our working Governor. We all went to Ebenikiri Ama Town Hall and formally decamped to the APC, where we were warmly received by the party leadership. As you can see, it was massive. The turnout was huge. Ward 9 is the father of politics in Amassoma, and we demonstrated that through the mammoth crowd that attended today’s meeting.”

When asked what this decision portends for the 2027 elections in Bayelsa State, especially in Amassoma, High Chief Ambaiowei added:

“Well, the signs are very obvious that Constituency 1 will deliver block votes. There will be unity and less acrimony because we are now like one party — one family — just as we were in 1999. During the NPN days, we still had pockets of other parties posing challenges. But when Alamieyeseigha contested under the PDP in 1999, we recorded remarkable unity. That is the same unity we are about to demonstrate in the forthcoming elections.”

Also speaking, an elder, Rev. Bob Apreala — who has been in the APC since its inception under Chief Timipre Sylva — expressed gratitude for the unity being witnessed.

Quoting scripture, he said:

“The Bible says in Psalm 133:1 that it is good and pleasant for brethren to dwell together in unity. I want to thank God that PDP and APC members have come together in oneness. That unity is one of the most important things anyone can achieve in life. I pray that God will keep us together as one family to move the APC to greater heights.”

On what this portends for the 2027 elections in Amassoma, Rev. Apreala added:

“We are already one. The victory that Jesus Christ won, we have also triumphed in it. Triumph goes beyond winning — it is celebration. And today, we are celebrating, not merely winning.”

On his part, Mr. Robinson Ere Erebi stated that his decision to defect is born out of his avowed commitment and unwavering loyalty to Senator Douye Diri.

Mr. Erebi, who is also a Technical Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, said:
“I take Sen. Diri as my mentor and political way-opener because he gave me my first appointment as Special Assistant and has now elevated me to the next level, for which I will be forever grateful.”

“He is a promise-keeping Governor whose visionary leadership and dedication continue to unite the Ijaw people and drive unprecedented infrastructural, economic, and socio-political development — culminating in the steady industrialization of our dear state.”

“The Governor’s alignment of the Prosperity Agenda with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is a strategic and progressive step that will further facilitate greater infrastructural expansion, manpower development, and socio-political rejuvenation for Bayelsa State and the wider Niger Delta region. So wherever Douye Diri goes, I follow,” he enthused.
