Justice Must Be Served: Barrister Daumiebi Festus Demands Accountability Over Killing of Patrick Peresuodei

A legal practitioner and public affairs commentator, Barrister Daumiebi Festus, has strongly condemned the alleged torture and brutal murder of Master Patrick Peresuodei, insisting that the incident must not be swept under the carpet, regardless of the status or influence of those allegedly involved.

In a strongly worded statement, Barr. Festus described the killing as “most unfortunate, condemnable, and a complete affront to justice and humanity,” stressing that silence or complicity would only deepen the injustice already suffered by the victim’s family.

“The obvious torture and brutal murder of Master Patrick Peresuodei shall never be swept under the carpet, no matter how highly placed or connected the alleged perpetrators are,” he said.

Although he noted that he had no prior relationship with the victim or his family, the legal practitioner pledged his full support in the pursuit of justice.

“I do not know the victim or his family, neither have I ever come in contact with them, but I pledge to support his family to get justice for this dastardly act,” Festus stated.

Barr. Festus also criticised individuals he described as “self-acclaimed Ijaw struggle champions,” accusing them of promoting selfish interests by allegedly supporting or justifying the killing.

“Those whose end game is self-serving and driven by primitive ego, and who are ostensibly supporting this evil, should know that you are sowing a seed, and karma shall appropriately visit you and your families in due course,” he warned.

Addressing the Nigeria Police Force in Bayelsa State, Festus expressed confidence in the professionalism of the institution while cautioning officers against any form of complicity.

“I do not want to believe that your men are part of this evil, because the Police, as an institution, is highly professional and above this sort of barbaric act. No security personnel should accept the risk of bearing responsibility for this animal behaviour,” he said.

The lawyer disclosed that he has already activated legal processes, revealing that his legal team met with the family of the deceased earlier in the day at Amassoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

“My legal team has met with the family of the murdered youth in his hometown this morning, and they have been properly briefed,” he confirmed.

According to him, four separate petitions have been prepared and will be submitted to key authorities, including the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri; the Inspector General of Police; the Director of the State Security Service (SSS) in Abuja; and the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State.

“My assurance to the family is that the killers of Mr. Patrick shall be brought to face justice squarely,” Festus vowed.

Emphasising cultural values, Barr. Festus noted that violence of this nature is alien to the Ijaw people.

“Ijaw means truth, and all well-meaning Ijaw leaders are expected to condemn this abomination. These are not our ways,” he said.

He concluded by describing the incident as deeply disturbing, particularly if linked to alleged criticism on social media.

“It is disheartening and disappointing for any sane person to support the gruesome murder of a Nigerian youth simply because he allegedly criticised someone on social media,” Festus added.

The case has continued to generate public outrage, with growing calls for transparency, accountability, and justice for the slain youth.
