The National Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Ambassador Dr. Godknows Boladei Igali, OON, has paid a heartfelt tribute to his late father, Pa Newton Aaron Amie Igali, ACCA, FCCA, on the occasion of his posthumous 100th birthday, describing him as an exemplary leader whose legacy of service to humanity and God continues to inspire generations.

In a commemorative message marking the centenary remembrance, Dr. Igali reflected on the remarkable life and enduring contributions of the late elder statesman, who passed into glory after a distinguished career spanning education, public service, professional accounting, business, community leadership and Christian ministry.
According to him, Pa Newton Igali was a trailblazer in several fields, earning recognition as one of the pioneers of modern professional and public service in the old Rivers State.
He noted that the centenarian was among the foremost educationists in the Yenagoa Province during the 1950s, serving as a school headmaster, while also championing the cause for the creation of Rivers State during advocacy efforts in the United Kingdom in the early 1960s.
Dr. Igali further highlighted his father’s groundbreaking achievements as one of the first Chartered Accountants from the old Rivers State, becoming an Associate of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in the mid-1960s before attaining Fellowship status (FCCA) in 1980.
He also recalled that Pa Igali served as the pioneer Chief Accountant of the Rivers State Transport Corporation in the 1970s and became the pioneer Bursar of the College of Science and Technology in 1972, an institution that later evolved into Rivers State University.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Igali described his father as a successful businessman, respected community leader and devoted Christian worker within the Anglican Communion, whose commitment to integrity, humility and selfless service left an indelible mark on society.
“You lived a truly worthy life of service to man and God and left a worthy legacy for us. Your service to man and to God continues to inspire us and lead us to greater heights for many generations to come,” he stated.
Describing his late father as “a gentleman of gentlemen,” the PANDEF National Chairman said Pa Newton Igali was known for his exemplary character and ability to leave positive impressions wherever he went.
He concluded the tribute with a prayer for the peaceful repose of his father’s soul, affirming that his memory remains cherished by family, friends and all who benefited from his exemplary life.
The centenary remembrance of Pa Newton Aaron Amie Igali celebrates not only a remarkable personal journey but also the enduring legacy of a pioneer whose contributions to education, public administration, professional accounting and community development continue to resonate across the Niger Delta and beyond.
