Diri/Akpe Believers Mobilise Support for APC Candidates Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Southern Ijaw Chapter Coordinator of Diri/Akpe Believers, Hon. Tobon Princewill, has called on Bayelsans to support all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming 2027 elections, particularly candidates contesting the Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency and Bayelsa Central Senatorial District.

Princewill made the call on Tuesday while addressing members of the Southern Ijaw Executive of the socio-political group at the Conference Hall of the APC Bayelsa State Secretariat in Yenagoa.

He explained that Diri/Akpe Believers is a statewide organisation with a presence in all eight Local Government Areas of Bayelsa State and is led by Hon. Douyi Willie as Director-General.

According to him, the group was established to demonstrate its belief in the leadership, programmes and policies of His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Douye Diri and his amiable Deputy His Excellency, Dr, Peter Pereotubo Akpe.

“Diri/Akpe Believers, as the name implies, simply tells everyone that we believe in the capacity of our principal, the governor. We believe in his projects, his programmes and policies. That is what we believe in.”

Princewill said the group was not a political party or an electoral platform but an organisation of supporters committed to propagating what it considers the achievements of the administration.

“Sometimes, people will say, when you say Diri/Akpe Believers, they will first ask, ‘Are they contesting election?’ That is the first impression that will come to somebody when they see the two names mentioned together: Diri/Akpe Believers. ‘Are they contesting election?’”

He added:

“I want to tell you that you should announce to anybody that is ready to hear that they are not contesting election. We are believers in this government, the Assured Prosperity Government, because of the good work it is doing in the state. So, we are its believers.”

Princewill urged members to propagate the administration’s programmes and projects across Southern Ijaw Local Government Area and the state.

He further called on members to support APC candidates contesting the Senate, House of Representatives, the Southern Ijaw State Constituencies and the forthcoming local government chairmanship election.

“The Diri/Akpe Believers indeed believe in all the candidates that His Excellency and the party have given to us. It is our duty to also support all our candidates, which are the candidates of the All Progressives Congress, from the Senate, the House of Representatives, Southern Ijaw Constituencies 1, 2, 3 and 4, down to the upcoming local government chairmanship election.”

He said the group would remain committed to promoting the government’s programmes and policies while working towards the victory of APC candidates.

“We are their believers and we cannot oppose whatever His Excellency has directed. So, that is the essence of this group: to propagate the good work of the government and also key into every programme and policy of the Prosperity Government, and ensure that we see to the victory of our candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

Princewill also expressed appreciation to the APC Chairman, Secretary and other state party officers for approving the use of the party’s state secretariat for the group’s meeting.

“I thank our party Chairman Hon. Warman Weri Ogoriba, State Secretary Hon. Barr. Japane Udoji, and every state officer. May the good Lord bless them for having approved this venue for use by Diri/Akpe Believers in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. God bless you in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

Also speaking, the group’s Director of ICT and New Media, Comrade Robinson Ere Erebi, advised members to use social media strategically to publicise what he described as the achievements of Governor Douye Diri’s administration.

Ere Erebi, who identified social media advocacy as his area of specialty, particularly encouraged members to make effective use of Facebook to expand the group’s reach and improve networking.

“One way that we can get people to hear and see the ongoing massive infrastructural development under the Assured Prosperity Government, and for the government to recognise your efforts for possible rewards, is to make good use of what I call political social media. That is my area of specialty.”

He urged members to build a strong online network by connecting with one another and other supporters.

“For those asking what they’ll get as Diri/Akpe Believers, if you use social media very well, you will achieve that aim with ease. Let us follow each other on Facebook. If you’re not there, please join Facebook and add the people here and people you know for effective networking.”

In his vote of thanks, the Secretary of Diri/Akpe Believers, Southern Ijaw, Chief Kembo Ebimobowei, expressed appreciation to the coordinator for hosting the maiden meeting of the group and thanked members for attending.

He urged members to remain committed to the organisation, stressing that their efforts would be noticed.

“I just want to admonish us all to put in our best. Because in politics, you may think that nobody is seeing you. Even the least thing you are doing, there is that one person who is watching you. Take every opportunity you have here very seriously and put in your best for the growth of this organisation.”

He added:

“If we put in our best, I can tell you the sky will just be our starting point.”

Earlier, during the open-floor session, members made contributions on issues ranging from political appointments and the timely dissemination of information to interpersonal relations with political leaders and stakeholders.
