The handover occurred in Akenfa, Yenagoa, and she is a native of Ogodobiri in Bomadi LGA of Delta State.

According to a letter dated September 29, 2026, titled “To Whom It May Concern” and signed by Tarinyo Idumangi, Director, Rehabilitation Department, on behalf of the Commissioner, Oweipadei was handed over to the Ministry by the Medical Social Services Department of the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH), Okolobiri, on July 20, 2026, for continued care, protection, rehabilitation and appropriate psychosocial intervention.

The letter stated that the Bayelsa State Government, through the Ministry, had taken responsibility for her treatment and associated expenses.

Miss Precious Oweipadei has been treated, and all expenses have been paid by the Bayelsa State Government through the Ministry of Women, Children Affairs, Empowerment and Social Development.

While presenting Oweipadei to her uncle, Mr. Wariebi Bukpo, a native of Ekeremor town, the Director of Rehabilitation said the Ministry was reuniting her with her immediate family and appealed to them to cooperate with the government by accepting her and ensuring that she continued her treatment to prevent a relapse.

“This Ministry, on behalf of the Government of Bayelsa State, is now reuniting her with her immediate family and therefore craves your indulgence to cooperate with the Ministry by accepting her and continuing her treatment in order to prevent her from relapsing,” Idumangi said.

Uncle expresses gratitude to Bayelsa Government

Responding, Mr. Bukpo expressed profound gratitude to the Bayelsa State Government, particularly the wife of the Governor, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children Welfare, Empowerment and Social Development, the Director of Rehabilitation and other staff of the Ministry for taking care of his niece.

He said Oweipadei had been unwell before the government intervened to provide the necessary care.

“She was not feeling fine, and the government helped me take care of her by the grace of God. So, to God be the glory, and may He help them for what they do. I’ll take good care of her,” he promised.

Bukpo also expressed appreciation to the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, whom he described as a “miracle governor,” for releasing funds for her treatment.

“May God bless the Governor of Bayelsa State, in Jesus’ name. Amen,” he prayed.

Also speaking to EMTV News, a visibly happy Oweipadei expressed heartfelt gratitude to Governor Douye Diri for what she described as his intervention in saving her life.

“I thank him for everything he has done. Because if not for him, I don’t know where I would have been now. I would have been late now. But because of the love they have for me, he just helped me to take care of me because he’s a good man,” she said.

She also thanked the Governor’s wife, the Commissioner and the management of the hospital for taking care of her throughout her treatment.

“I also thank the Governor’s wife, the Hon. Commissioner and the manager at the hospital for taking care of me. I say thank you for everything they have done for me. May God bless them. For in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen,” she said.
