After a long-running family rift, Harry’s visit is seen as a rare moment of unity within the royal family. He was photographed arriving at Clarence House, the King’s London residence, in a black SUV. The meeting between father and son was brief, lasting around 45 minutes, before King Charles and Queen Camilla departed for their country estate. Speculation of reconciliation has been sparked by the reunion, although there are no plans for Harry to meet his brother, Prince William, during his visit. The specific type of cancer diagnosed in King Charles has not been disclosed.
CNN reported that the shocking health update was personally shared with Harry, William, Princess Anne, and Princes Edward and Andrew before the official announcement. Meghan and the couple’s children did not join Harry on his last-minute trip to the UK, as they have relocated to the United States.
Harry made several visits to the UK last year, attending events such as the WellChild Awards and legal proceedings against UK publishers. It is unclear where he will stay during his visit, as the Sussexes vacated their official residence in Windsor. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed gratitude that the King’s condition was caught early.
The strained relationship between Harry and his family began when he and Meghan stepped back from their royal duties, followed by their controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey.
