Despite the party’s adoption of a consensus arrangement for its National Working Committee (NWC), Agoha questioned the necessity of the reported multi-billion naira expenditure used to stage the elaborate event at Eagle Square.
“If a consensus was the goal, a more cost-effective announcement would have better served a nation in need of fiscal discipline,” Agoha stated. He argued that, given the current economic climate, organizing a large-scale convention to ratify a pre-determined list of candidates amounts to an avoidable drain on resources.
In response, the APC maintained that the convention was funded through internal party resources and contributions from members, not the public treasury. However, critics, including Agoha, insist that such high-level political spending should be subject to greater transparency and public scrutiny.
The concerns come amid ongoing debates over Nigeria’s 2026 national budget, with analysts calling for prudent financial management across both public and political institutions.
