In a message addressed to Governor Douye Diri, the National Chairman of PANDEF, Godknows Igali, expressed appreciation for the invitation to witness the commissioning of the Bayelsa Independent Power Project, the New Yenagoa City Road 1 linking Airport Road, and the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge.
“I have the honour to write and thank you most sincerely for the very kind invitation extended to me to be part of the above groundbreaking activities,” Igali stated, noting that the event will be presided over by President Tinubu in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
Describing the occasion as historic, Igali said, “This is one of the greatest days for us, the people of Bayelsa State, to witness,” adding that the projects scheduled for commissioning on April 10, 2026, represent a bold step toward economic transformation.
He particularly highlighted the significance of the Bayelsa Independent Power Project, noting that it would enable the state to harness its vast natural gas resources for electricity generation. “That you can position Bayelsa State into generating its own electricity from the abundance of natural gas which God Almighty has endowed our state with is most profound,” he said.
The PANDEF chairman also underscored the importance of the Angiama-Oporoma Bridge and its connecting road network, which he said would end years of isolation for communities in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. According to him, “The completion of the bridge and adjoining roads connecting the erstwhile isolated Southern Ijaw Local Government Area to the rest of the state and the country. This project is the realization of decades of the dreams of our people amongst the highest oil producing in that part of the state.”
He further described the projects as enduring legacies, stating, “These are legacy projects for which the people of Bayelsa State and all of Nigeria will perpetually remember you.”
Igali concluded by commending Governor Diri’s leadership and offering prayers for the success of both the state government and the visiting President. “We salute you most heartily, and wish you and Mr. President a most rewarding visit,” he said, expressing optimism that the commissioning would “herald greater times for Bayelsa State.”
The commissioning is expected to attract dignitaries from across the country, marking a major milestone in Bayelsa’s infrastructure and energy development drive.
