At a press conference today in Abuja, Mr. Abubakar noted that political leadership and active citizenship matter because they are ways through which Nigerians can work together to build a country that works for all who live in it. He argued that as leaders, it is their duty to advance the well-being of all Nigerians and the country.

Furthermore, Mr. Abubakar highlighted that it should not take months or even decades for institutions to establish the credibility of any certificates presented by candidates for public office. He affirmed that the ground rules for legitimate governance in Nigeria need to be upheld, and the reputation of the country is at stake. That affects everyone, Nigerians everywhere.

The former Vice President paid tribute to the late human rights activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, SAN, who inspired the journey to find clarity and definitive answers to issues that appear to have defied Nigerian institutions for nearly a quarter of a century. He expressed his gratitude to Nigerian citizens and friends of Nigeria, both within and beyond the shores of the country, for their patience as they sought to find the facts and establish the truth.

Mr. Abubakar commended David Hundeyin, an independent journalist whose extraordinary work, and those of many more young people like him, have become a source of inspiration. He appreciated millions of Nigerian youths and citizen journalists who continue to put out the truth online, even when no one is listening.

He concluded by stating that this quest is not for or about Atiku Abubakar, but a quest for the enthronement of truth, morality, and accountability in Nigeria’s public affairs. He called on all Nigerians to join him in this campaign to enshrine the basic principles of probity, accountability, justice, morality, and uprightness in Nigeria and its government.
