According to the Executive Chairman of the Board, Dr. Daniel Eniekezimene, this remarkable surge can be attributed to several innovations implemented by the Board since he assumed office less than a year ago.
Dr. Eniekezimene, a financial expert and accomplished accountant, rose through the ranks to the position of Accountant-General of the State, and ultimately retired from service as a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance. He was sworn in by the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Governor Douye Diri, on April 29, 2024.
Upon taking office, Dr. Eniekezimene inherited an IGR of ₦1.2 billion. He immediately took action by introducing personnel changes, closing revenue leakages, and implementing aggressive collection strategies aligned with the efficient application of all relevant tax laws, levies, and rates. These efforts have led to the impressive figure of ₦5.42 billion for the month of March.
Dr. Eniekezimene also emphasized that the goal is to significantly increase IGR to complement the monthly allocations from the federation account, ensuring that it can cover the salaries of public servants in the state. He expressed profound gratitude to Governor Douye Diri for the opportunity to serve the state.
With this new achievement in less than a year as Executive Chairman of the Board, Dr. Eniekezimene believes that Bayelsa State is on track to introduce an e-ticketing system that will further enhance the growth of the state’s IGR profile.
