Bowei Family Cancels Onanaowei Lake Fishing Festival In Ikibiri

Members of the Bowei family from Ikibiri town in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have announced that they will not host the annual fishing festival at the renowned Onanaowei Lake this year. This decision stems from an ongoing legal dispute concerning the lake, as the Bowei family is currently in contention with the Bien family at the Supreme Court.

In a statement signed on behalf of the family by Chief Dauebi Bokoru, Barr. Akegbamokumo Zikenah, Hon. Gordon Kpun, Hon. Lagos Tunimibofa, and Hon. Doueridei Malaiti, the Bowei family clarified their stance, stating:

“The general public should also be aware that the Bien family previously sued the Bowei family for the entirety of the land encompassing Onanaowei Lake, as well as other lakes owned by the Bowei family. However, this case was dismissed in favor of the Bowei family.”

The Bowei family strongly advises the public not to trespass on their land under the pretense of participating in the fishing festival at Onanaowei Lake, particularly on February 21st and 22nd, 2025.

They emphasize that the entire vast area belongs to the Bowei family, and any attempts to trespass will be seen as contempt, resulting in legal action against the individual or group involved.
