The Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi is in mourning following the passing of Catechist James Njoroge Kabari, who died alongside his wife, Teresia Wanjiru, and their two children, Michael Kabari (6) and John Mark Kabui (1). The family lost their lives in a fatal road accident that occurred on 5 January 2026 at Karai, Naivasha.

Until his death, Catechist James Njoroge Kabari was serving at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Ridgeways. The family hails from Ndundu Parish, Gatundu South. Their daughter, who was also involved in the accident, survived and is currently receiving treatment at Nairobi Women’s Hospital, Naivasha. She has been identified as Clare Wairimu.
According to information published on the official Facebook page of the Archdiocese of Nairobi, the Church has urged the faithful to remember Clare Wairimu in their prayers and to also pray for the repose of the souls of Catechist James Njoroge Kabari, his wife, and their two children. Netizens have since flooded the Archdiocese’s official Facebook page, as well as that of Nico Kyalo, with messages of condolence, encouraging the bereaved families to remain strong during this difficult time.
