Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Today, we paused to honor the rich tapestry of our heritage on the United Nations World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. It was with immense pride and joy that I led a vibrant cultural procession through the lively streets of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. This event was not just a celebration; it was a heartfelt affirmation of our identity and communal spirit.

Accompanied by my esteemed Permanent Secretary, Ms. Tonye Koroye, and dedicated directors from the Ministry of Culture, alongside spirited representatives from the Bayelsa State Council for Arts and Culture, we kicked off our celebration at the iconic Tombia Roundabout. Our destination? The Cultural Centre—truly the heart of artistic expression in our state.
As we marched, the air was filled with the rhythm of traditional dances and the captivating display of masquerades. Each step of our procession showcased the richness of our heritage, with art exhibitions illuminating our cultural pride. From the beat of the drums to the vibrant attires, every element served as a powerful reminder of the beauty and depth of our cultural identity.
In my address to the population gathered, I urged all Bayelsans to take active roles in preserving, practicing, and promoting our culture. It is essential to not only celebrate our customs but also to instill the values of our heritage in future generations. Speaking our indigenous languages to our children, sharing our stories, and passing down our traditions are vital in this journey. They define who we are and unite us as a community.

Culture transcends mere history; it embodies our strength, our pride, and our vision for the future. Let us continue to weave the colorful threads of our diverse cultures, celebrating differences while finding common ground.
Together, as a state, let us carry forth the torch of our cultural identity, ensuring that it shines brightly for generations to come.
