As we gather to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Governor Douye Diri’s tenure, it’s an opportune moment to reflect on the milestones achieved under his leadership and the collective gratitude we share for the blessings bestowed upon us. Amb. Godknows Boladei Igali, the National Chairman of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), articulated this sqqentiment beautifully in his recent goodwill message delivered during the Thanksgiving ceremony.

During his address, Amb. Igali reminded us of the profound significance of the occasion. “Your Excellency, the Governor of Bayelsa State,” he expressed, “today is one of those special days when we gather to appreciate God for His benevolence.” His words highlighted not only the achievements over the past five nyears but also the hope and unity of the Niger Delta region, extending from Edo State to Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and right here in Bayelsa.
The progress made during Diri’s tenure deserves commendation. Amb. Igali emphasized the breakthroughs in infrastructure development, particularly in areas long negl
ected. Referencing historical struggles for better connectivity, he noted the dreams of Chief Opigo and other leaders who envisioned a day when the remote communities, especially in Southern Ijaw, would have access to vital road networks. “We thought it would take a hundred years,” he recalled, yet today, through concerted effort, residents can drive vehicles into Chief Opigo’s community and beyond, thanks to the Governor’s initiatives.
Amb. Igali’s message was not just a recounting of achievements but also a call to continued prayer and support for the Governor as he leads not only Bayelsa but also assumes the role of chairman of the South-South Governors Forum. “We know you’ll give leadership to the South-South,” he said, inspiring hope for a cohesive and strategic approach to regional governance.
The essence of those reflections goes beyond politics; it strikes at the heart of community. The cooperation embodied in “PANDEF will work with you” illustrates a commitment to unity and collaboration for the betterment of the Niger Delta. Moreover, the presence of Chief E. K. Clark’s son to convey blessings on his behalf signifies deep-rooted support and acknowledgment from our elders.
