The National Assembly member representing Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency, Hon. Engr. Rodney Ebikebina Ambaiowei, on behalf of the Ambaiowei Family, has established an educational endowment known as the Chief C. S. Ambaiowei Memorial Prize. This prize aims to recognize and reward academic excellence at the University of Africa, Toru-Orua (UAT), located in Bayelsa State.

While presenting the awards to the first set of beneficiaries during the 1st (combined) Convocation Ceremony of the University on Saturday, June 21, 2025, Dr. Simeon Yaibimi Ayogoi, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Business Management and representative of Hon. Rodney Ambaiowei, stated that the award is intended to encourage educational excellence among youths, reflecting his father’s passion for education.
“It is in memory of the legacy their father bequeathed to them. He is now extending this legacy to other youths who aspire to excel academically. Therefore, the award serves as encouragement to inspire others, accompanied by a cash prize of seventy-five thousand Naira for each awardee,” he said.
The annual Chief C. S. Ambaiowei Memorial Prize, endowed by the Ambaiowei Family, is designated for the Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Management Sciences at the University of Africa, Toru-Orua (UAT).
Notably, the Chief C. S. Ambaiowei Memorial Prize for this milestone combined convocation ceremony, which covered four academic years from 2020/2021 to date, was awarded to four Best Graduating Students as follows:
- ALA KIRI Counsel – BSc., Public Administration (CGPA: 4.62): Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Management Sciences (Management Sciences), 75,000 Naira.
- BENAZIMOR Fidelis Zacharia Egedenana – BSc., Accounting (CGPA: 4.50): Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Management Sciences (Management Sciences), 75,000 Naira.
- UMBA Izonbodei – BSc., Public Administration (CGPA: 4.86): Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Management Sciences (Management Sciences), 75,000 Naira.
- NZEKWE Chidi Daniel – BSc., Public Administration (CGPA: 4.47): Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Management Sciences (Management Sciences), 75,000 Naira.
This initiative, programmed to run for the next 15 years, is a clear demonstration of Congressman Rodney Ambaiowei’s commitment to education and youth development in the Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency.
In a similar development, Dr. Simeon Yaibimi Ayogoi also represented the Alamieyeseigha Family to present the Chief D. S. P. Alamieyeseigha, PhD, JP Award for the Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Management Sciences.
The University of Africa, Toru-Orua, the second university owned by the Bayelsa State Government, was established in 2017. With students from 27 states of the federation currently enrolled, this fast-growing university has graduated four sets of students so far.
