Governor Diri made the appeal while addressing participants at the conclusion of this week’s prosperity roadwork, which ended at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa.
Highlighting the health benefits of the regular exercise, the Governor noted that many participants had testified to improvements in their wellbeing since the initiative was launched.
“The moment one joins, he or she would never be the same again healthwise. I’m sure most of us are attesting to the fact that from when we started the prosperity walk, things have changed in their health conditions and the way they feel today,” Diri stated.
The Governor further stressed the importance of consistency, urging Bayelsans not to wait for his personal presence before joining the Thursday workout.
“You don’t have to wait for the Governor to come out. The moment it is Thursday, you have to remind yourself. Whether the Governor is there or not, whether the Commissioner or Assembly members are there or not, it’s for your own benefit, for your health,” he said.
Beyond the exercise, Governor Diri also used the occasion to celebrate the Bayelsa Queens Football Club, whom he described as the “prosperity girls.” He applauded their outstanding performance at the recent WAFU Zone B Women’s Club Championship in Abidjan, where they finished as runners-up.
He expressed optimism that the team would go on to qualify for the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco, while also linking their success to Bayelsa’s growing reputation as a hub for sports development in Nigeria.
“On behalf of the government and people of Bayelsa State, we say a very big thank you to our prosperity girls who showcased Bayelsa and Nigeria excellently. Bayelsa is fast becoming the capital of sports in Nigeria, and we must all join hands to make this a reality,” the Governor declared.
Governor Diri concluded his remarks with prayers for the health and prosperity of all Bayelsans, urging them to remain committed to meaningful and legitimate pursuits that would bring lasting blessings.
