The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Hon. Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, led a delegation on a condolence visit to Governor Douye Diri and members of the State Executive Council on Monday at the Government House, Yenagoa.

Prince Amgbare said the Authority received the news of Senator Ewhrudjakpo’s death with rude shock, noting that his contributions to the Prosperity Administration and the development of Bayelsa State could not be overemphasised.

The NDBDA helmsman, who was accompanied by senior management staff of the Agency, including the Executive Director, Agricultural Services, Mr. Felix Kurogha, and the Bayelsa State Area Manager, Mr. Eneife, described the late Deputy Governor as a committed leader who worked tirelessly for the development of the state until his last moments.

Further expressing the Agency’s grief, Prince Amgbare stated that the management and staff of the NDBDA joined the Bayelsa State Government in mourning the departed Deputy Governor.

“We received with rude shock the news of the death of our dependable Deputy Governor, who worked tirelessly until his last moments.

“At a time like this, we join you to mourn his passing, and we pray that the Lord grants you the strength to bear this great loss,” Prince Amgbare said.

Responding, Governor Douye Diri expressed gratitude to the NDBDA Managing Director for leading a delegation to condole with the government and family of the late Ewhrudjakpo.

“It is thoughtful of you, as a son of the soil, to come and commiserate with the government, the family, and the people of Bayelsa State,” the governor said.

Governor Diri noted that the late Deputy Governor made immense contributions to the growth and development of the state and Nigeria at large.

“Lawrence, as you all know, contributed immensely to the development of the state. He served Bayelsa State and Nigeria with dedication.

“This loss is not only to the family and Bayelsa State but to Nigeria as a nation. We have received messages of condolence from across the country, including from the Presidency, which shows how many lives he touched,” Governor Diri stated.

The governor added that, as mortals, it was not their place to question God over the timing of death, noting that the late Deputy Governor died while still actively serving the state.

“As mortals, we cannot ask why death came at this time. The late Deputy Governor was very active in service and died in active service,” he added.

While thanking Prince Amgbare for the visit, Governor Diri recalled that the NDBDA Managing Director was his predecessor as Commissioner for Youths and Sports.

“Prince Amgbare was my predecessor as Commissioner for Youths and Sports. He handed over directly to me in that ministry.

“We need these words of encouragement to console the family, the government, and the people of the state,” the governor said.

Emphasising the need for peaceful coexistence among Bayelsans, Governor Diri reiterated his call against politics of violence, stressing that unity remained critical to the state’s progress.

“Bayelsa is a small state where we all know one another. That is why I continue to preach unity. Bitter politics and politics of violence should be avoided. Death is a rain that falls on every family,” he concluded.
