The Federal Government, through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) distributed relief materials to victims of the 2025 floods in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The items distributed included bags of rice, garri, spaghetti, vegetable oil, iodized salt, and other essential supplies to affected communities on Tuesday.

The intervention followed a formal appeal by Hon. Engr. Rodney Ebikebina Ambaiowei, Member representing Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. The relief effort is aimed at alleviating the hardship faced by flood victims and providing immediate support to families affected by the disaster.
Speaking to journalists at the Port Harcourt Operations Office of NEMA, Hon. Ambaiowei expressed appreciation to the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, for their prompt response and support. He recalled his earlier legislative efforts, including moving a motion on the floor of the House to address the oil spill incident in Olugboboro Community, and subsequent appeals to NEMA, which culminated in the timely release of relief materials.




Residents of the affected communities have also expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, NEMA, and Hon. Ambaiowei for the intervention, describing it as timely and reassuring. They noted that the relief materials represent a critical step toward restoring hope, building resilience, and supporting households affected by the natural disaster.
