Yakubu, who represents Tangaza/Gudu Federal Constituency, noted that the farmers in the area were predominantly farmers and cattle rearers, and that the terrorists have vowed to stop farming activities this year if the communities refuse to pay up.

This threat to national food security must be addressed, he warned.

Local forested areas are home to terrorist groups including Lakurawa. Once sworn enemies, they have joined forces, Yakubu added.

The house urged the military to deploy more personnel and equipment to comb the forests to flush out criminals.

Middle Belt Forum chief Bitrus Pogu said the situation was a “slap on our country and unacceptable in a nation like Nigeria”.

National President of the Middle Belt Forum, Dr Bitrus Pogu, believes there has been connivance with those within the military who support terrorists and this collaboration must be weeded out if Nigeria wants to remain united.

Kaduna State chairman of CAN (Christian Association of Nigeria), Rev John Hayab, called on service chiefs to repatriate the criminals back to their home countries and collaborate to dismantle the criminal networks.
