The Commissioner for Culture in Bayelsa State, Hon. Godpower Keku, has expressed his appreciation to Teachers Without Borders, a U.S.-based non-governmental organization, for deeming him worthy of the prestigious title of Distinguished Culture Ambassador Icon.

While receiving the award in his office, the Hon. Commissioner for Culture stated, “Since the dawn of creation, I believe that culture is the foundation of life. It would have been easier for us if the Biblical story of the Tower of Babel had not occurred.”

“After the Tower of Babel, cultures were divided into many parts due to language differences. The first aspect of culture is language; when people do not understand each other, culture becomes fragmented in accordance with the number of languages spoken. That’s the beginning of the several divisions of culture.”

He continued, “This award is a recognition given to me, and I truly appreciate it. I encourage you to continue your efforts to touch the lives of people so that the governor who appointed me can also be proud.”

Earlier in the award presentation in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Coordinator of Teachers Without Borders, Hon. Philip Eke, stated that the award is given to Hon. Keku Godpower in recognition of his commitment to the sustenance and promotion of cultural values since assuming office as Commissioner.
