In continuation of his constituents’ economic intervention programs for the people of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Hon. Rodney Ebikebina Ambaiowei, the Honourable National Assembly member representing Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency, collaborated with the National Institute For Cultural Orientation (NICO) to successfully implement a training and empowerment project for youths and women in Anyama, Bayelsa State.

Zonal Coordinator of NICO Barr. B. P. Ayakoroma, welcomed participants to the event and highlighted the institute’s role in promoting positive cultural values and harnessing culture for national development.
In his speech on the theme “Cultural Industry, Youth and Women Skill Acquisition for Sustainable Development,” he emphasized NICO’s commitment to training youths and women in skill acquisition to promote national development and economic growth.
We are glad to have you on board as we embark on this impactful and ever rewarding training in aquaculture. Fish farming is not only a source of protein, but also a vital contributor to food security and economic growth”.
“Our goal is to share knowledge in best practices in fish farming. I have no doubt that at the end of this programme, participants will be equipped with the basic requirements and skills needed to successfully run fish farming, on their own”, he said.
Guest Lecturer Mrs. Ifeyinwa James, an Aquatic Resource Management Professional, delivered a lecture on fish culture’s role in sustainable development and the importance of youths and women in the Nigerian economy. She emphasized the capacity of youths to start businesses and create jobs, and the vital role of women in agricultural activities and marketing farm produce.
Mrs. James provided participants with in-depth knowledge on fish farming and its management techniques. She highlighted the benefits of fish farming, such as its contribution to food security, economic growth, and income generation for farmers.
She also stressed the importance of cooperation among beneficiaries to reduce costs and improve success in fish farming.
Comrade High Chief Abaye Ambaiowei, in a goodwill message, praised Hon. Rodney Ambaiowei’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises and highlighted the development efforts of Governor Sen. Douye Diri in Southern Ijaw.
“Our Governor, His Excellency Sen. Douye Diri loves us so much beyond expression. When he came on board, only Amassoma had motor road. But he has taken the development of roads to Anyama, it has reached Angiama, and a bridge is crossing to Oporoma. The Oporoma road will reach Otuan and continue to the ocean communities. He has promised to do that for us. Let us commend our able Governor”, he said.
He expressed gratitude to the good people of Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency for their support in Hon. Ambaiowei’s successful election and assured them of more empowerment projects in9 the future.
The training concluded with the presentation of Empowerment Packages and Certificates of participation to 100 beneficiaries. The project aimed to encourage job creation, reduce unemployment, and increase domestic fish production, while fostering cooperative co-existence within the constituency.
It is essential for the community to embrace peaceful fishing practices to ensure a continuous supply of fish and a thriving community.
Hon. Rodney Ambaiowei expressed his gratitude to the participants for their support and promised to continue working for the betterment of Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency.
