We are pleased to announce to the public that following the recent retirement of AIG Hakeem Tolani Alausa, IGP Kayode Egbetukon, Ph.D., NPM, has appointed AIG Johnson Oluwole Adenola, psc, as the new Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 16 Police Command Headquarters, Yenagoa.

AIG Johnson Oluwole Adenola hails from Ipari-nla, Ijebu North-East Local Government Area of Ogun State. He was commissioned into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, graduating as a member of the Cadet ASP Course 17 in May 1992.
Academically, AIG Adenola possesses a BA (Hons) Degree in History and a Master of Public Administration from Ogun State University and the University of Ilorin, respectively. Upon graduating from the Police Academy, he began his career with a mandatory one-year practical attachment at the Owerri Urban Divisional Police Headquarters in Imo State. In March 1995, he transitioned to the role of Spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, serving until January 1997, before moving to Lagos State Police Command, where he held various significant positions.
AIG Adenola’s career is characterized by impactful roles within the Force, showcasing his leadership in modern policing while embodying integrity, professionalism, and excellence. Some key positions he has held include:
- Police Public Relations Officer, Imo State Command (1995-1997)
- Divisional Traffic Officer, Sabo Division (1997-1999)
- Team Leader, Surveillance Section, State CID, Yaba Lagos (1999-2002)
- Officer in Charge of International Police Post, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos (2002-2003)
His international experience includes serving as a Civilian Police Mentor at the United Nations Mission In Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) from October 2003 to December 2004. He has also held several Divisional Police Officer roles, including Domestic Airport Division, Lagos, and has served in various capacities such as the Deputy Force Secretary and Principal Staff Officer to the IGP.
In pursuit of professional excellence, AIG Adenola has attended numerous courses aimed at enhancing his leadership capabilities. Notable training includes:
- Senior Police Officers Traffic Management Course, Police Staff College, Ikeja, Lagos (1999)
- Advance Detective Course, Buruku Jos, Plateau State (2002)
- Security Risk Management Course in Amsterdam, Netherlands (2020)
To address the challenges faced by Zone 16, AIG Adenola has developed an 8-step Action Plan:
- Strict Discipline at all levels of policing
- Respect for the rule of law and rights of citizens
- Strict enforcement of existing laws
- Capacity-building for police officers through ongoing training
- Advanced intelligence and technology-driven policing
- Increased supervision layers for officers
- Implementation of an inclusive policing strategy with community engagement
- Robust inter-agency collaboration and partnerships with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs)
In his personal life, AIG Adenola enjoys badminton and chess. He is happily married to Mrs. Taibat Aderemi Adenola, and they have children together.
Before his current posting as the 11th Zonal Commander, AIG Adenola served as the Commissioner of Police for Oyo State Command.
The Zonal Police Headquarters calls upon the citizens of Bayelsa and Rivers States to extend their cooperation and support, enabling AIG Adenola to utilize his extensive knowledge and proven skills in policing, in line with the Inspector General of Police’s agenda.
