Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Chief Nyesom Wike has undoubtedly done well as the Executive Governor of Rivers State for two consecutive terms. However, his recent actions on a property belonging to the Government of Bayelsa State, and personal outbursts against His Excellency Sen. Douye Diri, do not befit the leadership status ascribed to him.
The recent demolition of a Bayelsa State Government property in Port Harcourt by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has sparked controversy and allegations of political motives. Some opposition parties have used this incident to discredit the prosperity agenda of the Bayelsa State Government and to campaign against the re-election of the incumbent governor.
While it is true that there may be some truth to the allegations, it is important to consider the hard facts. Governor Wike’s uncompromising attitude towards the Bayelsa State Government’s property in Rivers State may not be unconnected with Senator Douye Diri’s refusal to join the ill-fated G5 group and their leadership’s disobedience against the PDP.
It is also worth noting that Governor Diri did not support Governor Wike’s presidential bid, which raises questions about the timing and political motives behind the demolition. However, some political pundits justify Wike’s action as a passion for speedy development of Rivers State. Indeed, there’s no smoke without fire.
Only time will tell whether Senator Douye Diri will embrace this development as a new challenge to do even better than he is doing now, especially as the Prosperity Administration is stepping up its march towards a deserved second term in office.
Nonetheless, it is important to separate politics from development and to ensure that the interests of the people are put first in the scheme of things to come from November 11, 2023.
