Emmanuel Topaz Daniel, a youth leader in the community, told TheCable that the gunmen —about eight young men—began shooting at approximately 7:50 p.m., moving freely through the area before escaping into nearby bush paths.
Security personnel reportedly arrived nearly an hour after the attack had begun. By Monday morning, the death toll had risen from over 20 to 28, as some of the injured later succumbed to their wounds in hospital.
Residents said intelligence reports warning of possible terrorist movements in Plateau State had been received weeks before the incident, raising concerns about preventive security measures.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang visited the affected community, assuring residents that there would be no mass burial and that the state government would cover the medical expenses of the injured.
As the community mourns and buries its dead, residents remain in shock—demanding answers and hoping that government assurances will lead to lasting security in the area.
