Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has extended heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his momentous decision to sign the South-South Development Commission Bill into law. This significant development was publicly announced on March 25, 2025. PANDEF also acknowledges the National Assembly for their prompt and dedicated work in finalizing this crucial piece of legislation.

In a statement by PANDEF’s National Chairman, Ambassador Godknows Boladei Igali, he emphasized that “this singular action has boosted the confidence of our people in the commitment of the Federal Government to promote equitable regional development across the country, particularly in addressing the unique social, environmental, and developmental challenges facing our region.”
Ambassador Igali voiced optimism that the establishment of the new commission will benefit from the appointment of skilled and experienced individuals who can effectively contribute to sustainable development efforts alongside our regional governors. The South-South region has long been a critical contributor to Nigeria’s economic stability, and it is vital that this new body operates effectively to ensure ongoing progress.
Additionally, PANDEF asserts that urgent attention must be given to other pressing issues, particularly environmental remediation related to the adverse impacts of oil and gas production, as well as the critical infrastructure deficits that pose existential threats to the South-South region.
Furthermore, in light of widespread concern regarding the suspension of Rivers State Governor, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara, along with the Deputy Governor and the State Assembly, PANDEF hopes that President Tinubu will prioritize reinstating a stable and democratic governance structure in the state. Immediate action to restore these officials would reflect a commitment to democratic principles and respond to the appeals of citizens across the nation.
In conclusion, PANDEF once again expresses gratitude to President Tinubu and the National Assembly for this significant milestone. We look forward to continued collaboration, progress, and peace in the days ahead as we work together to foster development in the South-South and beyond.
