In a heartfelt message dated 7th October 2025, and addressed to Her Excellency, Mrs. Margaret Alamieyeseigha, the widow of the late leader, PANDEF’s National Chairman, Ambassador (Dr.) Godknows Boladei Igali, OON, conveyed the Forum’s “true sober greetings” on behalf of the Board and National Executive Committee.

The message praised Chief Alamieyeseigha—fondly called “Alamco”—for his outstanding leadership, diligence, and unflinching commitment to the welfare of his people. Ambassador Igali noted that the late former governor’s contributions to the development of Bayelsa State and the empowerment of the Ijaw nation would forever remain indelible.

“There is no doubt that Chief Alamieyeseigha deserves and earned the highest level of accolade and honour. While he lived with us and all through the course of his public life, he was outstanding and accomplished. He was selfless and, at all times, placed the interests of the collective above his own personal interests,” Igali wrote.

He further extolled Alamieyeseigha’s deep faith and humility, recalling how the late leader’s forbearance and forgiveness stood out even in the face of adversity.

“Even more than that was the purity of his heart, as he practised Christianity to the letter and was known to have always placed the things of God above everything. Despite his time of tribulations and ordeals which were politically orchestrated, we saw virtue, forbearance and forgiveness as his mantra,” the letter added.

Ambassador Igali concluded by affirming that Bayelsa State owes much of its present status to the vision and foundational work of Chief Alamieyeseigha, praying for continued strength for his widow, children, and family.

“Today, Bayelsa State is what it is because of him, and his name will remain immortal in the annals of the history of this state, the Ijaw nation, and the entire Niger Delta. May his soul rest in peace,” the statement concluded.

Chief D.S.P. Alamieyeseigha, remembered as the “Governor-General of the Ijaw Nation”, served as the first elected Governor of Bayelsa State and was widely regarded as a champion of resource control and Ijaw unity.
