We are compelled to respond to a recent publication circulating on social media on Tuesday 6th May 2025, wherein the Commissioner of Police appears to justify the assassination of Wanemi Olotu Omubo, who was brutally murdered by unknown assassins.

As the law enforcement agency responsible for investigating crimes, it is the duty of the Police to conduct a thorough and full-scale investigation into Wanemi’s assassination, rather than justifying his murder. Notably, Wanemi Olotu Omubo was never charged or convicted of any criminal offense in a court of law, contrary to the Commissioner’s assertions labeling him a nefarious criminal.
If allegations of firearm possession existed, it was the Police’s responsibility to investigate and prosecute accordingly. Instead, the Police seem to have implicated themselves by acknowledging manipulation. We emphasize that any allegations against Wanemi were mere accusations, and he remains presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court.
It is shocking that the Police would abandon their investigative duties to justify a heinous crime like murder. If the Police claim to have conducted an investigation, we ask: who benefited from Wanemi’s murder, and who succeeded him, as the alleged Bobos cult leader, suggested by the Commissioner?

Until his death Wanemi was an ardent supporter of the Bayelsa state PDP, he was a political appointee in former Governor Seriake Dickson’s government and the current Governor Douye Diri”s government. He was the current Vice chairman of the well respected MOSIEND (MOVEMENT FOR THE SURVIVAL OF THE IZON ETHNIC NATIONALITY IN THE NIGER DELTA), the PDP Ward 3 Ewoama Brass LGA will definitely miss him.
The Nigerian Police must be cautious not to erode public trust in law enforcement and justice.
As a responsible family man and political appointee under the prosperity Government of Bayelsa state, we believe this government, known for its responsibility, would not engage persons of nefarious activities.

We are deeply concerned about the Bayelsa state Police command’s apparent incompetence in the investigation and the Commissioner’s seeming endorsement of criminal acts. We are also anxious to know the aim of the persons responsible for sponsoring the disparaging statement against Wanemi Omubo across national newspapers, blogs, radio stations etc. Therefore, we urge the AIG Zone 16 to take over the investigation and address these issues to restore public trust.
