In a historic ceremony in Amassoma on Tuesday, 26th November 2024, a total of 273 HDF pupils’ desks, 30 HDF teachers’ tables, 30 HDF teachers’ chairs, and 16,800 copies of customized not-for-sale notebooks of 20, 40, 60, and 80 leaves, respectively, were handed over to the principals of Government Secondary School (GSS), Amassoma; Southern Ijaw Secondary School (SISSO), Oporoma; Community Secondary School (CSS), Otuan; Community Secondary School (CSS), Eniwari; Ogboin Grammar School (OGS), Amatolo; and St. Stephen Primary School, Amassoma.

Speaking at the occasion, the Honourable Member of the House of Representatives, Engr. Rodney Ebikebina Ambaiowei, stated that this wonderful project was facilitated by his office in collaboration with the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA) and contracted to Prince Dole Tours Limited for the construction, design, and supply of the items.

The Congressman, who was ably represented by Atabai Samuel, explained that the focal point of today’s event is primarily to provide these educational materials to support the efforts of the Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area and the prosperity administration led by Sen. Douye Diri in the State, recognizing the remarkable work they are doing in the education sector.

He also highlighted a few other educational support schemes he has initiated in his constituency as a Lawmaker, including the procurement of over 200 JAMB forms for students to access higher education, the REA (Rodney Ebikebina Ambaiowei) student fees support scheme, the rehabilitation and renovation of a six-classroom block at Eniwari with the installation of modern toilet facilities, and the ongoing construction of Alomu Central Primary School in Amassoma, among others.

“Obviously, education is said to be the bedrock of any society. This emphasizes the crucial role that education, in an enabling environment with assorted gadgets, grants, aids, and infrastructure, plays in shaping the lives of the pupils, students, and the communities where it thrives,” he said.

“With the provision of these items, it will go a long way towards supporting and alleviating the educational needs of our rural schools. It will enhance conducive learning and relieve parents, especially from the burden of purchasing notebooks for their wards. It is also essential to remind the principals and headteachers of the benefiting schools that these items must not be diverted for personal use or sold in the market. Anyone caught in such acts shall face the full consequences of the law. The items are dedicated solely to be used by teachers, pupils, and students to improve their educational standards.”

“I have prioritized education as one of my core mandates and will invest in it to support the local and state governments whenever the opportunity arises—by building more schools, providing educational grants, books, and science equipment, as well as other digital learning tools to develop stronger and more informed pupils and students who can compete favorably with their contemporaries anywhere in the world,” he added.

In a goodwill message, the acting Amananaowei of Amassoma, HRH Chief Godwill Akedesuo, emphasized the benefits of having a worthy son who prioritizes the welfare of the people he represents. He expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the member representing Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency since his inception in the National Assembly.

Chief Dubadei Igalli, Vice Principal of Community Secondary School Eniwari, thanked Hon. Rodney for his benevolent actions and also appreciated his efforts in renovating their school, which had been in a deplorable state. He assured that the educational materials would be used prudently.

Additionally, the Principal of Ogboin Grammar School (OGS), Mrs. Ebitei Matthew, expressed her gratitude to Hon. Rodney Ambaiowei for selecting her institution as a beneficiary of his constituency’s educational programme. She also praised him for performing so well within this short period in office with all of the laudable people-oriented projects.

The official presentation of the educational materials was conducted by the Chief of Staff/SA Documentation to the Honourable Member, House of Representatives, Mr. Pere Alfred, at the White House Hotel premises in Amassoma, Bayelsa State.
