Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, is expected to resume her legislative duties at the National Assembly later this month, following the completion of her six-month suspension.

Her legal counsel, Victor Giwa, disclosed that the lawmaker, who is currently on vacation in London, has finalized all necessary arrangements ahead of her resumption for plenary sessions on September 23.
“Everything is in place, and the six months have expired. The only thing left is her resumption,” Giwa stated, adding that Senate leadership is not expected to obstruct her return.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended on March 6 after rejecting a reassignment of her plenary seat—a decision described by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions as insubordination. The suspension also stripped her of aides, salaries, and other entitlements.
Throughout her suspension, the senator maintained that the sanction was politically motivated, alleging that it was connected to her petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she accused of sexual harassment—an allegation that the Senate dismissed.
Despite securing a favorable court ruling, the upper chamber insisted that she serve the full penalty. Her earlier attempt to return in July was thwarted by security operatives at the National Assembly complex.
With her suspension now concluded, her lawyer emphasized that ongoing legal disputes would no longer hinder her mandate.
“Even the court cases will become more of an academic exercise,” Giwa noted.
