The late Mrs. Duala Alagba, fondly known as “Dee,” has been remembered as a p
eaceful, hardworking, and compassionate woman whose life was dedicated to family, faith, and service to humanity.
Speaking with EMTV News, her son, Hon. Sonny Alagba, described his mother as a woman whose entire existence revolved around peace, sacrifice, and the welfare of children.
“As a wife, my mother was a peace-loving woman. I never saw her quarrel with my father for one day. Her concern was always that we should eat, go to school, and become something in life,” he said.
According to him, her care extended beyond her biological children to every child in the household.
“She did that not only for us but for everybody in my father’s household. When she was a tailor, she sewed clothes for all of us. Sometimes we wore our Christmas clothes barefoot because buying sandals was difficult then,” he recalled.
Hon. Alagba further described his late mother as a strong community woman who combined farming, tailoring, and trading while remaining actively involved in communal life.
“For the community, my mother was very supportive. She attended burials, ceremonies, and every important occasion. She was a farmer and a very hardworking woman,” he added.
He noted that her calm temperament shaped his own character.
“Anytime I had issues and reported to her, she would tell me to leave it. Sometimes I got annoyed, but she would insist I let it go. That attitude developed me into someone who believes that no matter how people treat you, God’s promises are greater,” he said.
When asked how he intends to immortalise her legacy, Hon. Alagba revealed plans to establish a non-governmental organisation in her honour.
“My mother was a peaceful person. In her honour, I want to establish an NGO called ‘My Kids, My Life.’ The NGO will support at least 100 newborn babies in the community with baby items and ₦50,000 each to assist their mothers. We also plan to raise funds to support the children’s primary education,” he explained.
According to him, the initiative is aimed at sustaining his mother’s lifelong commitment to the care and welfare of children in the community.
