BRACED, which stands for the South-South states of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo, and Delta, aims to drive the region’s developmental aspirations through sustainable economic growth and job creation. The commission seeks to promote sectors such as agriculture, education, environment, power, security, and sports to empower the youth of the region.

In addition to the discussion on regional cooperation, Dr. Piriye Keyaramo, the pioneer Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the BRACED Tourism Promotion and Development Initiative (BTPDI), called for the establishment of a South-South Tourism Development Fund. This fund would support the growth of tourism in the region while ensuring sustainable development and the preservation of the region’s cultural heritage and natural assets.

Keyaramo emphasized that regional funding, sourced from both the private and public sectors, could transform destinations and improve the quality of life for residents. He also highlighted the potential of regional integration efforts to facilitate trade, capital, energy, people, and ideas within the South-South states, leading to a globally competitive regional economy.

The Director General of the BRACED Commission, Amb. Joe Keshi, further emphasized the importance of the commission’s objectives of regional cooperation and integration. He called for prompt actions to address the challenges facing the commission and revive its aspirations to benefit the South-South region.

The meeting of the South-South governors and the BRACED Commission Council in Yenagoa aims to review ongoing efforts and reinvigorate the body’s mission to achieve its goals. By leveraging regional cooperation and integration, the South-South states hope to promote sustainable development and prosperity for their people.
