Leadership is best measured by promises kept and lives impacted—and in Bayelsa State today, Governor Douye Diri stands tall on both counts.

In nearly seven years in office, he has remained consistent with his vision of continuity in governance, ensuring that projects are not abandoned but completed for the benefit of the people. This alone sets him apart in Nigeria’s political landscape.

From the Olympic-standard stadium to the modern Secretariat Complex, the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, the 60-megawatt Gas Turbine Power Plant, and the Yenagoa Ring Road, his administration has demonstrated a clear commitment to development. These are landmark projects that speak directly to progress and economic transformation.

Yet, for the people of Southern Ijaw, one project stands above all—the Angiama–Oporoma Road. For over 60 years, successive administrations failed to make this a reality. Governor Diri did.

Today, Oporoma is no longer cut off. Today, businesses can grow. Today, communities are connected. Today, hope is alive.

This is not just infrastructure—it is liberation.

What was once described as the most underdeveloped yet resource-rich local government area is now witnessing real transformation, with road networks extending to communities like Otuan and Ukubie.

Governor Diri’s achievements go beyond bricks and mortar. His commitment to peace, unity, healthcare, and education has created a stable environment where development can thrive.

As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu prepares to commission key projects in Bayelsa on April 10, 2026, it is clear that these achievements are not only locally significant but nationally recognized.

For Southern Ijaw, the verdict is already clear: this is a governor who kept his word.

And for that reason, both now and in the years to come, Southern Ijaw will never forget Douye Diri.
