On behalf of PANDEF, I will support you as much as possible for you to succeed in your NUIS Elective Conventions, scholarship advocacy, and school outreach programmes.”
The organizers noted that the event would not only celebrate unity but also recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of the community and society at large. Ambassador Igali will also be conferred with the prestigious “Most Prominent Outstanding Award” in recognition of his empowerment initiatives and leadership contributions.
Speakers at the event emphasised Alamieyeseigha’s pivotal role in the struggle for resource control and true federalism, noting that his contributions remain relevant to contemporary debates on Nigeria’s political structure.
“There is no doubt that Chief Alamieyeseigha deserves and earned the highest level of accolade and honour. While he lived with us and all through the course of his public life, he was outstanding and accomplished. He was selfless and, at all times, placed the interests of the collective above his own personal interests.”
A key highlight of PANDEF’s message was the renewed call for urgent action on the longstanding infrastructural decay in the Niger Delta—the region that sustains the national economy. The forum emphasized that critical projects such as the East-West Road, the Benin–Auchi Road, the Benin–Warri Road, and the rehabilitation of major southern ports in Port Harcourt, Calabar, Onne, and Warri can no longer be ignored if Nigeria intends to unlock its full economic potential.
This milestone anniversary offers us yet another opportunity to reflect on the journey of our nationhood. In that respect, we urge governments at all levels to show greater determination and respect for rule of law in consolidating democracy, pursuing meaningful economic reforms, and confronting the challenges of insecurity, poverty, hunger and youth unemployment that continue to weigh heavily on our people.
Dr. Igali prayed for Sommie’s soul to rest in peace and urged all who mourn her to take solace in the legacy she leaves behind.
Speaking with his characteristic fearless candour, Bishop Kukah emphasized the importance of federalism for Nigeria’s survival, stressing that the nation has the potential to be truly great if leaders act in the right direction. He also used the platform to deliver a strong message to those in power on the need for accountability and good governance.
The lecture, themed “Convergence and Coalescence of Federalists as an Imperative for the Survival of the Nigerian State,” took place at the Niger Delta University Main Campus Auditorium.
