On July 16, 2025, I had the esteemed honor of participating as a speaker at a Special Colloquium celebrating the 10th Coronation Anniversary of the revered Deji of Akure, His Imperial Majesty Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi. This event was not only a celebration of a decade of leadership but also an opportunity for deep reflection on the significant role traditional rulers play in nation building.

In a rapidly changing world, the relevance of traditional institutions cannot be overstated. These leaders are not mere relics of the past; rather, they are vital custodians of our collective identity and heritage, embodying the ideals, ethos, and values that have been passed down through generations. Their advisory roles, rooted in non-partisanship, provide a stabilizing influence in the polity, and their commitment to alternative dispute resolution offers valuable mechanisms for peace and harmony in our communities.

At the heart of the discussion during the colloquium was a resounding acknowledgment: traditional rulers indeed have crucial roles to play in the ongoing development of our nation. They possess unique insights into the cultural fabric of society and can serve as catalysts for unity amidst diversity. Their efforts in building intergroup harmony and fostering security support are invaluable, especially in times of unrest or social strife.

Reflecting on my recent tenure as Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council at the Federal University of Technology (FUTA) in Akure, I am particularly grateful for the support I received from Kabiyesi. His guidance and unwavering commitment to the educational upliftment of our community were instrumental in many of our initiatives during that period. It is through such collaborations with traditional rulers that we can amplify our efforts toward national progress.

As we celebrate the legacy of Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, it is essential to recognize that the path to national building is not solely the responsibility of government leaders and policy-makers. Traditional rulers hold an integral position in this journey, serving as bridges between culture and modernity, tradition and progress.

In conclusion, may we continue to honor and uphold the roles of our traditional rulers as vital partners in nation-building. Let us cherish their wisdom and guidance in navigating the complexities of contemporary society. Long live the king, and may our shared commitment to peace and development persist for generations to come. Amen.
