Trump Diagnosed with Chronic Venous Insufficiency Amid Health Speculations

The White House announced on Thursday that former US President Donald Trump, 79, has been diagnosed with “chronic venous insufficiency,” a long-term but benign vein condition.

This revelation comes in the wake of public speculation regarding Trump’s heavily bruised hand and noticeably swollen legs.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained that the condition was discovered after Trump recently “noted mild swelling in his lower legs.” She attributed the widely observed discoloration on his right hand to “frequent handshaking” combined with his use of aspirin as part of a “standard cardiovascular prevention regimen.”

Trump, who became the oldest person in US history to assume the presidency when he began his second term this January (succeeding Democrat Joe Biden, 82), often boasts about his high energy levels and is an avid golfer. His administration even recently shared an image depicting him as Superman. In April, after a routine medical check-up, Trump claimed to be in “very good shape.”

However, Leavitt’s disclosure comes after viral discussions online about the President’s visibly swollen ankles, which were particularly noticeable at the recent FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey, along with his discolored right hand.

In an effort to maintain transparency, Leavitt stated that Trump requested she share a note from his physician regarding the diagnosis. Following “a comprehensive examination” and ultrasound tests, Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, described as “a benign and common condition, particularly in individuals over the age of 70.” This condition involves damaged leg veins that fail to properly return blood.

Importantly, Leavitt added, “there was no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease.” Tests also indicated that Trump has “normal cardiac structure and function, with no signs of heart failure, renal impairment, or systemic illness.”

Regarding the hand bruising, Leavitt reiterated, “This is a well-known and benign side effect of aspirin therapy. The president remains in excellent health,” despite previous dismissals from the White House regarding the source of the bruising as simply a result of handshaking.

The health of US presidents is always under scrutiny, but with the two oldest occupants in White House history holding office since 2017, this examination has intensified. Trump’s administration has recently escalated claims that Biden’s White House concealed evidence of the Democrat’s physical and mental decline.

Biden’s health became a significant issue in the 2024 election cycle, ultimately leading him to withdraw from his re-election campaign after a poor debate performance against Trump. Republicans in the House of Representatives have even subpoenaed several Biden aides, including his doctor, as part of an investigation into the former president’s mental fitness.

Trump has also baselessly alleged that Biden’s use of an “autopen” for signing documents indicates incompetence, despite such devices being widely utilized by various powerful figures in Washington for years.

In a separate health concern, Biden was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer in May. He has consistently dismissed questions about his mental acuity in office and has stated that he believed he could have won a second term.
