This time, the attackers targeted a Mobile Police (MOPOL) checkpoint in New Kalli, Wawa Ward of Borgu Local Government Area. During the attack, the gunmen set fire to the officers’ living quarters, destroyed farm produce, and carted away some personal belongings.
Sources confirmed that no casualties were recorded in the incident, which occurred on Sunday, January 4, at about 12:30 a.m.
“There were no casualties in the attack, but they burnt the policemen’s room and packed some of their belongings before escaping,” a local source said.
Another resident who confirmed the incident stated that the gunmen operated unhindered, raising serious concerns about security in the area.
The renewed attack comes amid growing fear following the Kasuwan-Daji Market assault, which left about 42 people dead and many others abducted.
“The community has not yet recovered from the market attack when this one happened,” another source said. “Everyone is worried because if even a police checkpoint can be attacked, then nowhere feels safe.”
Residents have continued to call on security agencies and the Niger State Government to urgently reinforce security in Borgu and surrounding communities to prevent further attacks.
