As part of preparations to ensure broad participation, the Commission announced that Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will take place from April 2026 to January 2027, giving eligible Nigerians ample time to register or update their voter information.

Political parties are expected to conduct their primaries between July 1 and September 30, 2026. The submission of candidates’ lists to INEC is scheduled for October 1 to October 31, 2026, while the final list of candidates will be published on November 15, 2026.

Meanwhile, INEC noted ongoing discussions around a proposal to amend the Electoral Act to shift the general elections to November 2026. The Commission clarified that this proposal is still pending and has not been adopted.

With the release of the timetable, INEC has signaled the formal commencement of preparations for the 2027 polls, urging political parties, aspirants, and voters to adhere strictly to the outlined schedule to ensure a credible and orderly electoral process.
