In a press statement issued on Wednesday in Yenagoa, Hon. Ambaiowei expressed deep sorrow over the death, extending heartfelt condolences to the Peresuodei family, the people of Amassoma, and Bayelsa State at large.

“The loss of a young life is a wound that cuts across every family, every household, and every heart in our constituency. Patrick was one of ours,” the lawmaker said. “His passing demands not only mourning but also a firm and unwavering commitment to accountability.”

The federal legislator disclosed that his office swung into action immediately the incident was brought to his attention, stressing that his involvement was driven by responsibility rather than public pressure.

“Since the moment reports of this tragedy reached my office, I have been actively and privately engaged on this matter at every level available to me. This is not a statement born of public pressure. It is a statement born of responsibility,” he stated.

Hon. Ambaiowei confirmed that he had made direct contact with senior officers of the Bayelsa State Police Command, representatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), as well as lawmakers representing Southern Ijaw in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly. According to him, the message from his office has remained clear and consistent.

“Justice must be pursued with the same urgency and seriousness with which this life was lost,” he emphasized.

Providing updates on the investigation, the lawmaker commended the Bayelsa State Police Command for launching a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding Patrick’s death, noting that the Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, is personally overseeing the process.

He also confirmed reports that four NSCDC officers allegedly involved in the incident have been apprehended, while Mr. Agusi Oyeintari has been arrested by the Amassoma Police Division and transferred to Yenagoa for further investigation.

“These are meaningful and encouraging developments, and they reflect the kind of decisive action that this matter demands,” Ambaiowei said.

The lawmaker further acknowledged the intervention of the Divisional Police Officer of Amassoma, Mr. Bodonyefa Peter, whose engagement with the community helped to maintain calm during the tense period following the incident.

Hon. Ambaiowei also commended Governor Douye Diri and the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Biriyai Dambo, SAN, for the decisive role played by the Bayelsa State Government, noting that the Ministry of Justice has taken over coordination of the case to ensure a transparent and impartial prosecution.

Appealing for calm, the federal representative urged youths and residents of Amassoma and Southern Ijaw to allow the legal process to take its full course.

“The anger stirred by this tragedy is justified, but it must be channeled wisely. The path to justice runs through due process and the courts, not through vigilante action or informal settlements,” he cautioned.

Reaffirming his commitment to the family and the people of Bayelsa State, Hon. Ambaiowei assured that he would continue to monitor the case closely until justice is fully delivered.

“There will be no negotiation of a human life. There will be no quiet resolution. Justice will be served. That is not a hope. It is a commitment,” he declared.
