Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Politics was once described as the “art of the possible.” Today, in the hands of the valueless, it has become the “art of the heist.” We are witnessing a peculiar era in which leadership is no longer a call to service but a refuge for those who lack the character to succeed in any honest endeavor. When men without integrity find their way into the corridors of power, they do not build monuments; they build mirrors to their own greed.

The Cult of the Transactional
For those who lack value and respect in society, politics is the ultimate shortcut. It is the only arena where a man can be morally bankrupt in the morning and an “Excellency” by the afternoon. These characters treat the Constitution like a suggestion box and the national treasury like a personal inheritance.
To them, a “principle” is merely a price tag yet to be negotiated. They trade in the currency of betrayal, moving from one party to another with the shamelessness of nomads—chasing not a vision for the people, but the scent of the next contract. As I have noted before, leadership without fairness breeds rebellion, and loyalty without reward cannot endure forever.
The Ghost of Institutional Integrity
We must be clear: a nation does not collapse because its enemies are strong; it collapses because its guardians are hollow. When integrity is removed from the political equation, the result is progressive backwardness. We see it in the appointment of sycophants over specialists. We see it when loyalty to a godfather is valued more than competence for the country.
When a man who lacks self-respect is placed in a position of power, he will inevitably disrespect the office. He will treat the suffering of the masses as a statistical error and the cry for justice as a nuisance to his afternoon tea. This trivialization of the rule of law is what leads to chaos, corruption, and incompetent leadership.
The High Cost of Cheap Men
The tragedy of politics without principle is that it conditions the youth to believe that “smartness” is synonymous with “shrewdness.” It teaches the next generation that a CV is unnecessary if one has connections, and that a conscience is optional if one has a crowd. We cannot allow manufactured reputations or so-called “administrative miracles” to replace accountability and proven character.
Let this serve as a warning to the architects of this hollow system: power without principle is a loan with a high interest rate. Eventually, the system you broke will be the same one that fails to protect you when you are no longer the one holding the gavel.
The Verdict
Respect is not a title conferred by a returning officer; it is a status earned through consistency. You may buy a seat in the Senate, but you cannot buy a place in the hearts of the people. To those who thrive in this vacuum of values: enjoy the noise of your convoys while it lasts, for history has never been kind to those who mistake the size of their pockets for the height of their character.
Nigeria does not need more “politicians.” It needs men and women who are guided—and, indeed, constrained—by their principles. Anything less is merely organized crime draped in the symbols of statehood.
