Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has expressed satisfaction over the peaceful conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primaries held across the state, describing the exercise as orderly and successful.

Speaking after participating in the Bayelsa Central Senatorial District primary election at Sampou/Kalama Ward 6 in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, Governor Diri said the exercise was part of the ongoing internal democratic process of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the governor, the primary election, which was conducted simultaneously across the three senatorial districts, witnessed a peaceful atmosphere similar to the House of Representatives primaries held last Saturday.
“This morning, in continuation of the primary elections of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), I participated in the Bayelsa Central Senatorial District primaries in my Sampou/Kalama Ward 6, in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, to select our candidate for the 2027 election,” Diri stated.

He noted that stakeholders within the Bayelsa Central Senatorial District had unanimously resolved to support the return of the incumbent senator, Friday Konbowei Benson, for another term in office.
“The stakeholders in the Central Senatorial District have resolved to return the incumbent Senator, Friday Konbowei Benson, for another term,” he said.
Governor Diri commended party leaders, delegates and faithful for their commitment to the process and for maintaining peace throughout the exercise in the state’s 105 wards.

“Let me appreciate our party faithful and leaders for their understanding and for turning out en masse to participate across the 105 wards,” the governor added.
He further expressed confidence in the preparedness of the APC in Bayelsa State to secure victory in future elections through unity and collective effort.
“Working together, the Bayelsa State chapter of APC is poised for victory in all our elections in 2027,” Diri declared.

The peaceful conduct of the primaries is being viewed by political observers as a positive signal for the party’s internal cohesion as preparations intensify ahead of the next electoral cycle in the state.
