A former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar (retd.), and his wife have reportedly been abducted by suspected armed bandits in Katsina State, north-west Nigeria.

The incident occurred on Saturday along the Matazu axis of Katsina State while the retired senior military officer and his wife were travelling to Katsina.
According to reports, armed attackers intercepted their vehicle and forcibly took the couple away.
A security source disclosed that the driver of the vehicle was also attacked during the incident but managed to escape despite sustaining a gunshot wound.
The source further revealed that the retired general’s vehicle, a red Peugeot 504, was later recovered and taken to the Matazu Divisional Police Headquarters.
An informal security alert circulating among military contacts, allegedly shared by retired Brigadier General Sagir Musa, confirmed the abduction and called for urgent action by security agencies to secure the victims’ release.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Katsina State Police Command nor the military authorities had issued an official statement regarding the incident.
