Sampou, Bayelsa State – The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, on Saturday hosted the traditional marriage ceremony of his first daughter, Dr. Stephanie Ebidenere Diri, and Ballad Tamaradoubra Agbeyei , at his country home in Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state.

The colourful ceremony attracted prominent political leaders, government officials, traditional rulers, captains of industry and other dignitaries from across the country.
Among those in attendance were former First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan; Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who chaired the event; his wife, Prof. Olufunke AbdulRazaq; Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori.
Also present were the First Ladies of Jigawa, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi and Taraba states, while the First Ladies of Edo and Benue states were represented by coordinators from their respective offices.
Governor Diri, who was joined by his wife and mother of the bride, Dr. Gloria Diri, prayed for the couple and expressed the hope that their union would be a blessing to themselves, their families, Bayelsa State and Nigeria.
He said:
“It is marvellous in our eyes. May your union be blessed.
“There is no perfect marriage. So strive to love each other and commit your marriage to God at all times.”
Governor AbdulRazaq, in his remarks, congratulated the couple and urged them to always seek God’s guidance in resolving challenges that may arise in their marriage.
He encouraged the couple to make God the cornerstone of their union as they begin their journey together.
“Today, we join your family in praying for you. We celebrate your successful marriage. Every day that we wake up, you should hand your life’s issues to God and resolve them amicably as you go ahead in your marriage.”
Other dignitaries at the colourful ceremony included the Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Nigeria, Dr. José Bamóquina Zau; Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri; former Governor of Rivers State, Sir Celestine Omehia; former Deputy Governors of Bayelsa State, Hon. Peremobowei Ebebi and Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John-Jonah; and wife of the late first civilian Governor of the state, Mrs. Margaret Alamieyeseigha.
Also in attendance were members of the National Assembly from Bayelsa State, including Senator Benson Agadaga (Bayelsa East) and Senator Konbowei Benson (Bayelsa Central), as well as House of Representatives members Chief Fred Agbedi (Sagbama/Ekeremor), Hon. Oforji Oboku (Yenagoa/Kolokuma-Opokuma), Hon. Engr. Rodney Ebikebina Ambaiowei (Southern Ijaw) and Hon. Marie Ebikake (Brass/Nembe).
The Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, other state legislators and the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Justice Matilda Ayemieye, were also present.
The event further attracted the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku; Managing Director of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority, Prince Ebitimi Amgbare; former NDDC Managing Director, Chief Ndutimi Alaibe; and former Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Dr. Kingsley Kuku.
The Inspector-General of Police was represented by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 16, Abubakar Zubairu.
Other dignitaries included the Managing Director of Megastar Technical and Construction Company, Arc. Harcourt Adukeh; Managing Director of Tantita Security Services, Chief Keston Pondi; Chairman/CEO of De Wayles Group of Companies, High Chief Victor Egukawhore; Senator Lee Maeba; former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus; and other captains of industry.
Also present was the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, mni; retired Justice of the Supreme Court and Pere of Tuomo Kingdom, Justice Francis Tabai; service commanders, religious leaders and other senior government officials.
The ceremony provided an opportunity for family members, political leaders, traditional institutions, friends and well-wishers to celebrate the couple and their union in an atmosphere of culture, tradition and goodwill.
