The Bayelsa State Ministry of Information, Orientation and Strategy has commenced a five-day pre-installation training programme for staff of the Bayelsa State Government Printing Press on the operation and maintenance of a newly procured Heidelberg printing machine.

The training, being held at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Yenagoa, is designed to equip operators, technicians and support staff with the requisite knowledge and skills for the effective installation, operation and maintenance of the modern printing equipment.
Declaring the training open, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Nimibofa Ayaowei, urged the participants to take the sessions seriously and maximise the opportunity to acquire practical knowledge in the handling and maintenance of modern printing equipment.
Prof. Ayaowei said the government’s investment in the machine was aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of printing services for the benefit of the people of Bayelsa State, stressing the need for the equipment to be properly handled and maintained.
He also urged the Ministry and the Printing Press to maximise the benefits of the investment by exploring opportunities to generate revenue through the facility.
The SSG charged the staff to be business-minded, accountable, consistent and proactive in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Ebiowou Koku-Obiyai, said the acquisition of the Heidelberg printing machine represented a major leap from conventional printing processes to modern, precision-based technology in government printing services.
According to her, “For years, our Printing Press has carried the responsibility of producing government publications, gazettes, and official documents, often without adequate equipment. With this new machine, we are moving from delays to efficiency, and from limited capacity to unlimited possibilities.”
The Commissioner said the Heidelberg machine was the first of its kind in the South-South sub-region and the second in Nigeria after Lagos, describing its acquisition as a demonstration of the visionary leadership of the Governor of Bayelsa State in equipping state institutions with modern infrastructure.
She charged the participants to take the training seriously, noting that operators, technicians and support staff would become custodians of modern printing technology in the state.
“This machine alone cannot deliver results. Competent people do. In the next five days, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to install, operate, and maintain this equipment to international standards. The expectation of the government and the people is that we will now produce faster, better, and at a reduced cost,” she stated.
Hon. Koku-Obiyai commended the Permanent Secretary, directors and management of the Printing Press for coordinating the programme and expressed appreciation to the facilitators for sharing their expertise.
In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Ifiemeya Anthony Borisei, expressed delight at the quality and sophistication of the equipment, stressing the importance of maintaining strict confidentiality in the production and handling of government documents.
He also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Bayelsa State for his commitment to improving the capacity of the State Government Printing Press.
In his remarks, the representative of the Chief Executive Officer of Heidelberg Nigeria, Mr. Olumuyiwa Oluyemi, assured the government of the company’s readiness to provide the trainees with comprehensive training in line with the contemporary features and operations of the equipment.
He assured the trainees that, at the end of the training, they would be taken through the practical aspects of the installation and operation of the equipment to enhance their effective management and maintenance of the machine.
He noted that the government had made the right choice by investing in Heidelberg, describing the partnership as a worthwhile investment that would deliver lasting benefits.
The five-day training will cover installation procedures, machine operations, safety protocols and maintenance practices, ahead of the full deployment of the Heidelberg printing machine at the State Government Printing Press.
