Lawmaker Receives Solidarity Visit from Unity In Diversity Foundation, as Women Endorse His Second-Term Bid

The Member representing Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Engr. Ambaiowei made the appeal on Thursday, November 5, 2026, while receiving members of the Unity In Diversity Foundation, a grassroots women’s socio-political organisation, who paid him a solidarity visit in Yenagoa.

The lawmaker expressed appreciation for the organisation’s show of solidarity, describing its gesture as an indication of genuine political commitment beyond material considerations.

He commended the group for demonstrating a different approach to political engagement, noting that political support should be driven by conviction, shared aspirations and the desire to contribute to good governance rather than expectations of immediate financial benefits.

According to him, politics should not be treated as a commercial transaction in which supporters approach political office holders primarily for personal gains.

“Some groups, when they come, think only of what they can take from politicians. That is not a good approach. When politicians are supported genuinely by their people, they understand that they have a responsibility to those who entrusted them with leadership, and the people can then enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he said.

Ambaiowei particularly appreciated the gifts presented by the foundation, describing them as thoughtful gestures made out of genuine affection and goodwill.

Drawing an analogy from the biblical account of the widow’s offering, he said the value of a gift should be measured by the sincerity and sacrifice behind it rather than its monetary worth.

He also commended the organisation’s name, Unity In Diversity, describing it as a fitting expression of the political unity and cooperation needed to advance Bayelsa State and Nigeria.

The lawmaker urged political stakeholders to rise above differences and embrace reconciliation, citing Governor Douye Diri’s leadership approach as an example of political tolerance and accommodation.

He observed that the governor had consistently demonstrated restraint and a willingness to bring even political opponents closer, rather than allowing disagreements to degenerate into hostility.

Ambaiowei further encouraged members of the foundation to remain committed to their organisation’s objectives and maintain their support for its Bayelsa State Chairperson, Hon. Blessing Ebiere Naingba.

He assured them that genuine commitment and loyalty were recognised, adding that political leaders understood the difference between those who offered sincere support and those motivated solely by personal benefits.

Addressing the forthcoming elections, the federal lawmaker called for continued support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, acknowledging the challenges confronting the country while expressing confidence in the administration’s efforts to address them.

He maintained that the country’s economic and developmental challenges could not be resolved overnight and appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience while supporting ongoing efforts to improve national conditions.

Speaking on his legislative representation, Ambaiowei acknowledged that his first tenure had not enabled him to reach every community across Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency, which comprises nearly 200 communities.

He explained that the responsibilities and limitations of legislative representation made it difficult to meet every expectation within a single tenure, expressing the hope that additional time in office would provide greater opportunities to extend the impact of his representation.

The lawmaker also recounted his political journey, recalling that he contested elections under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019 before eventually winning the House of Representatives seat in 2023.

He disclosed that his decision to join the APC followed Governor Diri’s defection to the party in November 2025.

Ambaiowei explained that his previous position in the opposition had presented certain limitations in pursuing some of his legislative and constituency objectives, expressing optimism that his current political alignment would create opportunities to advance more development initiatives.

He urged the foundation and other political stakeholders to support President Tinubu, Governor Diri, APC senatorial candidates, House of Representatives candidates and State House of Assembly candidates in the 2027 elections.

“Let us work together and support our President. Let us support our Governor, Douye Diri, and all our senatorial, House of Representatives and State Assembly candidates so that the Renewed Hope Agenda can be sustained and the party can emerge as the majority party,” he appealed.

In an interview with EMTV News shortly after the solidarity visit, the Bayelsa State Chairperson of Unity In Diversity Foundation, Hon. Blessing Ebiere Naingba, said the visit was organised to demonstrate the organisation’s support for the APC and Ambaiowei’s second-term ambition.

Naingba explained that the foundation had resolved to identify with the lawmaker and mobilise support for his re-election in the 2027 general elections.

“Today, Unity In Diversity Foundation, Bayelsa Chapter, under my leadership as State Chairperson, has come to throw its support behind Hon. Rodney Ambaiowei for re-election for a second term in the House of Representatives.

“We have come to give him our weight and let him know that we are with him and that we are committed to delivering him come 2027. That is the reason we are here today,” she stated.

Assessing Ambaiowei’s performance in the National Assembly, the foundation’s chairperson described his first tenure as impressive, while acknowledging that no political office holder could satisfy every individual or meet all expectations.

She, however, maintained that the lawmaker remained the organisation’s preferred choice for the Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency seat.

“His first tenure has been awesome. It has been amazing, and he has done so well. You can never get a perfect leader, president or representative, and you cannot satisfy everybody.

“But as far as Unity In Diversity is concerned, Hon. Rodney Ebikebina Ambaiowei is our choice today, tomorrow and forever,” Naingba declared.

She further emphasised that the organisation’s endorsement reflected its confidence in his representation and its determination to support his second-term ambition.

The solidarity visit underscored the growing political engagements and consultations among grassroots organisations and political stakeholders in Bayelsa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
