Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Over the past 15 years, the people of Bayelsa State have witnessed a trend in politics where some political parties and their candidates blame past governments and use their positions to negotiate for appointments and contracts to the detriment of their followers and communities. Their campaigns are often based on propaganda and politics of alienation, which divides families and communities instead of uniting them. This approach does not add value to the average person looking to benefit from the system.
As the November 11, 2023 Governorship election approaches, it is time for the people of Bayelsa State to reflect on the current political, social, and economic developments in Nigeria. It is time to forget the negative impacts of previous administrations and focus on correcting the avoidable mistakes of the past. The government is a continuous process, and continuity of abandoned government projects is one of the hallmarks of a progressive and prosperous government.
Governor Douye Diri is forward-looking and is running for re-election as Bayelsa’s next Governor. He has been working to complete some of the laudable projects that could not be completed by his predecessors, instead of starting new projects that may end up as uncompleted projects. His approach has endeared him to the majority of Bayelsans, who believe that he deserves their support for a second term. It is important to note that Governor Diri has not promised anything and failed.
He has been working hard to complete projects that will benefit the people of Bayelsa State. The completion of projects like the Nembe – Brass Road, Tower Hotel, the Dualization of the Tombia Roundabout – Amassoma Airport Road, and linking roads to adjoining communities, to make the Bayelsa International Airport more functional, put the state in the green light. The Glory-Drive Road started by Sylva and the Angiama – Oporoma Road and Bridge projects are currently being continued for completion, which is a perfect example of the advantage of continuity.
While it is true that no one candidate can contest an election in a democracy, the timing is not right for any other candidate until 2027. It is important for all candidates and the electorate to understand this and support Governor Diri’s second term to run concurrently. This will create a peaceful atmosphere for Bayelsans to thrive and work hard towards the completion of laudable projects.
In conclusion, it is time for the people of Bayelsa State to unite and focus on the present reality with a view to correcting the avoidable mistakes of the past. The government is a continuous process, and continuity of abandoned government projects is one of the hallmarks of a progressive and prosperous government. Governor Diri has been working hard to complete projects that will benefit the people of Bayelsa State, and he deserves their support for a second term.
Let us all work together towards a brighter future for Bayelsa State.
