Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Speaking at the funeral ceremony, the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Sen. Douye Diri, said that the state is mourning the loss of a great son of Bayelsa.
The Governor, who was ably represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, reminded us that death is a necessary end that will come when it comes.
“The implication of that is that everybody will, at some point, die. Whereas I’m not competent enough to speak on what happens after death, it is very clear from the tributes, both written and unwritten, rendered here that our brother Godspower Okpoi lived a worthy life. What can we learn from his life?”
“The Ikibiri community, please be comforted that your great son has gone. You’ll have a lot more to replace him because there are many Okpois in Ikibiri land. To Bayelsa State, we have lost a very great accountant. To his colleagues, a professional associate and friend is gone. Be comforted by the life he lived. But most importantly, to the Okpoi family, be comforted that your great son has lived a life worthy of emulation. After all, the Psalmist said we can only be remembered by the works we have done.”
“Therefore, take solace in the good things he has done for humanity. And when you’re finally gone from here, you’ll also be remembered by the works you have done. Thank you, and God bless all of us,” he stated.
While speaking on behalf of the Okpoi family, former Acting Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Rt. Hon. Werinipere Davidson Seibarugu expressed profound gratitude to His Excellency Sen. Douye Diri, the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State; His Excellency, former Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Peremobowei Ebebi; honorable members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly; and former members ably led by Chief Robert Enogha, the Chairman of the Former Legislators Forum, along with other important government functionaries and dignitaries who came from within and outside the state to comfort and encourage the family.
“My job is to thank you all. May I, on behalf of the family, now thank you for coming to encourage us, showing us love, and giving us courage. We’re happy that you’re here to honor our brother and father on this day that God has called him back. Like every other person has said, it’s not the best time to talk, but let me thank you all.”
“I also want to take this opportunity to thank His Excellency, the Governor of Bayelsa State, and others who contributed during his illness, as well as those who prayed for us and for him. May I take this opportunity to thank all of you, along with the community, the clan, Yenagoa Local Government, and Bayelsa State. Thank you very much, and may God bless all of you,” he said.
