This ceremony stood out not only for its vibrant Ijaw traditions but also for its historic twist — the bride, Miss Doubra Dorothy Soroh, joined the event virtually via Zoom from the United States, where she currently resides. While her physical absence could have posed a challenge, love and technology stepped in to bridge the gap, allowing her to fully participate in the event in real-time.
The event was celebrated with pomp and pageantry, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Ijaw people. Due to overwhelming interest from family, friends, and community members, the entire ceremony was recorded in the Ijaw language of the couple — a significant gesture in preserving culture while embracing the future.
Shortly after the ceremony, the groom, Mr. Da-Silva Orus Otonye, shared his excitement and gratitude in an interview with Erevision MediaTV:

“I feel blessed, I feel very happy. Today is a special day for me. I feel very honoured that a day like this has come and gone, so I’m very happy. I want to say a very big thank you to all those who have come from far and near, and as they go back, may God protect and guide them back to their various houses. I really appreciate them — their presence has really encouraged me and my wife, and I want to say a big thank you to them all. Thank you.”
The celebration not only marked the union of two families but also symbolized how tradition can evolve without losing its soul, even when separated by oceans.

Erevision MediaTV congratulates Mr. Da-Silva and Miss Doubra on their union and wishes them a lifetime of love, joy, and shared purpose.
