The Premier Mr. & Miss UNIPORT 2026 pageant, organised as part of activities marking the 2026 Students’ Week by the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Port Harcourt, has ended on a high note, with its thrills and recognitions continuing to resonate among participants and stakeholders.

One of the standout contestants was 17-year-old Contestant Number 4, Miss Aaliyah Peremoboere Robinson-Erebi, who emerged as the second runner-up and also won the prestigious “Pride of UNIPORT” crown.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the pageant, Aaliyah, popularly known as Aaliyah Starr, expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing it as a memorable milestone.
“Honestly, I feel really happy and grateful. Being crowned the Pride of UNIPORT means a lot to me because I know there were a lot of amazing contestants who also worked hard,” she said.
She added that the support she received throughout the competition contributed to the achievement.
“I’m grateful to everyone who supported and believed in me throughout the process. It’s definitely a moment I’ll always remember,” Aaliyah said.
A 100-level Biotechnology student of the University of Port Harcourt, Aaliyah said her decision to participate in the pageant was driven largely by the desire to challenge herself, build confidence and gain new experiences.
“What inspired me was the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone, express myself and represent myself confidently,” she explained.
According to her, the competition also provided an avenue to interact with new people, learn from others and develop personally.
“I also saw it as a chance to meet new people, learn from others and gain an experience that would help me grow personally. I wasn’t just focused on winning; I wanted to challenge myself and see what I could achieve,” she said.
Reflecting on the challenges she encountered during the competition, Aaliyah acknowledged that balancing preparations for the pageant with other responsibilities was not always easy.
“Yes, there were definitely challenges. Preparing for the contest while also dealing with other responsibilities wasn’t always easy. There were moments when I felt nervous and questioned myself, especially because the competition was quite strong,” she said.
However, she said she remained focused by drawing confidence from her abilities and staying committed to the process.
“But I kept reminding myself to stay focused and believe in what I could bring to the table,” she added.
On the lessons she gained from the experience, Aaliyah emphasised the importance of confidence, authenticity, preparation and resilience.
“One major lesson I learned is that confidence is very important, but so is being yourself. I also learned the importance of preparation, consistency and being able to handle pressure,” she said.
She noted that the experience also taught her that success is not necessarily about being the best at everything, but about giving one’s best and remaining authentic.
“The experience taught me that you don’t always have to be the best at everything; you just have to give your best and remain true to yourself,” Aaliyah said.
Looking ahead, the young pageant contestant said she intends to build on the experience while maintaining a strong focus on her education and future career.
“For the future, I want to continue developing myself and making the most of opportunities that come my way. I hope to build on this experience, improve my confidence and communication skills, and become someone who can positively influence and inspire others,” she said.
Aaliyah further disclosed that she would continue to prioritise her education and career while exploring opportunities through which she could make a meaningful impact.
“I also want to focus on my education and career while exploring opportunities in areas where I can make an impact. Winning this award is just one step for me, and I’m looking forward to what comes next,” she added.
The Premier Mr. & Miss UNIPORT 2026 pageant formed part of the activities marking the university’s 2026 Students’ Week, providing students with an avenue to showcase confidence, creativity, personality and leadership qualities.
