During the meeting, Governor Diri expressed his condolences to the people of Opu-Nembe over the recent loss of lives and reiterated his stance on ending the conflict in the area.

“I do not doubt in my mind, that we still have some vestiges of challenges arising from the chieftaincy election that have been concluded long ago. Let me also sympathize with you, first for the loss of lives in your kingdom, the accident of your Chairman and several attacks in Opu-Nembe”, he said

Governor Diri warned those instigating violence in Opu-Nembe to stop as his government would not tolerate such acts. He also directed the Deputy Governor to investigate the chieftaincy crisis in the area and report back to him in two weeks.

The Governor stressed the importance of peace and security in Bayelsa State, saying that the government would continue to work with security agencies at both the federal and state levels to ensure the safety of lives and properties.

Governor Diri also called on the leaders and chiefs of Opu-Nembe to take responsibility for their own development and to promote peace within their communities.

“My dear Chiefs and leaders of Opu-Nembe, it’s time we take our destiny into our hands. Nobody can develop you more than you develop yourself. If you can’t bring peace, peace will continue to elude you. You have to first be at peace with yourself and you can be at peace with others”, he said.
