In an exclusive interview with Erevision MediaTV shortly after the “New Year Goat Pepper Soup” party, Hon. Ambaiowei wished all his constituents a prosperous and happy New Year, emphasizing that the essence of hosting his constituents—and even others—is something he emulated from His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri.

Hon. Rodney Ebikebina Ambaiowei, MNSE, who represents the Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, explained that Sen. Douye Diri views Christmas as a season of giving, stressing that he, too, as an elected officer, is a beneficiary of this spirit. “If your leader embodies this symbol of giving and blessing to people, what else do you expect me to do?” he queried during the interview.

The people’s Congressman emphasized that he is motivated by the giving nature of his leader to host annual Christmas and New Year get-togethers for his constituents. “I am so delighted with His Excellency, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Sen. Douye Diri, as someone who mentored me, even in secondary school, and someone who continues to mentor me. I always strive to emulate his virtue of giving and sharing with people. I am very happy, and I hope to emulate him for as long as I live, because that is also what our Lord Jesus Christ commanded us to do.”

“I want all my constituents to be happy because my governor is happy; he is always a jolly fellow. I believe that shared happiness is what motivated my governor and, in turn, motivated me to do what I’ve done for my constituents,” he enthused.

Regarding his expectations for the new year, Hon. Rodney Ambaiowei stated:

“I think of my people, I dream of my people; the air I breathe is for my people, and everything I do is for them. As far as I am concerned, what I’ve accomplished in 2024 within the hallowed chambers will only increase in 2025, God willing. The number of bills I proposed in 2024 was three establishment bills, and I hope to introduce even more in 2025. The motions I raised led to NEMA bringing relief materials to some oil spill-affected communities, and I hope to do more. Nonetheless, I pray that there are no spills, because my constituents are suffering from them.”

“I will also ensure that I tackle the oil companies operating within my constituency to secure employment opportunities for my constituents.”

On a broader note, the lawmaker promised to lobby for more projects in his Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency because he prioritizes the needs of his people above all else in his work at the National Assembly.

“I believe that 2025 in the hallowed chambers will be significantly better than 2024. I just hope that my constituents pray for me to maintain good health to perform legislative functions that exceed those of 2024,” he concluded.

Also speaking at the occasion, elder brother to the Lawmaker and manager of the event Comrade High Chief Abaye Ambaiowei expressed his elation with the successful organization of this 2025 edition the new year party.

Comrade Ambaiowei emphasized that they have been doing this get-together on 25th December and 1st of every year, for the past 15 years, stressing that apart from Southern Ijaw, Amassoma or Ogboin clan, a lot of people, including friends across the globe, gather for this social event on a theme of friendship and togetherness.

“Everywhere, Ekeremor, Sagbama, Yenagoa, Ogbia people, you can see, across every tribe gathers here. We’ve always been enjoying ourselves. No strings attached. Like I have always announced, it’s just a social gathering and we had a field day. 25th December it was Bishop that played. First of January, it was Allen Otobo “No Money, No Friend” Band that thrilled us. We had quite a pleasant time to usher in the new year and it was fun, it was real fun”.

“I wish everybody goodwill, I want people to make progress. If we can’t host people, let people host us. We can gather in anybody’s house, and I think yesterday we gathered in Elder Pereladei Apreala’s house. We were hosted to a sumptuous dish, we enjoyed ourselves. Its not about Rodney or about Comrade Ambaiowei. Anybody who has to host… this is how our fathers lived, so I’m happy. I want progressive people to bring people together, so that we can have this social togetherness. Ijaw people are social animals, they’re people who live together and enjoy themselves. So I feel happy”, he said.
